WAYFARER’S QUILT
A small spatial puzzle

Eight patches, a world of patterns

A place for
every piece.

Gather eight two-square patches into a little traveling quilt. Match their edges for harmony, or leave room for four colors across a row and four stitches down a column. Every piece is yours to see.

Every point, explained

  • 2 points per covered square. Every sewn patch covers exactly two empty squares and stays there.
  • Across each shared edge between different patches: +3 for the same dye and +2 for the same stitch. Only horizontal or vertical neighbors count. Each edge counts once.
  • A full row with four different dyes earns 8 points. A full column with four different stitches earns 8 points.
  • Covering all sixteen squares earns a 16-point completion bonus.
  • The quilt ends after eight placements, or immediately when no adjacent empty squares remain. Isolated gaps keep their partial score. There is no timer, undo, or voluntary early finish.
  • A patch’s first displayed half goes on the named square; its second goes in the chosen direction. To reverse a patch, anchor its other end and use the opposite direction.
Planning and saved visits
  • Local matching and line variety compete. Equal dyes across a seam may block a colorful row; equal stitches may block a varied column.
  • The preview gives exact score changes and warns when a move leaves only isolated gaps. Keep neighboring empty squares available for later patches.
  • Pairings are shuffled at runtime, with the same balanced set of sixteen swatches every time. The whole set is public before you move.
  • Invalid commands change nothing. Batches stop at the first invalid command or failed check; earlier successful placements remain.
  • Browser storage is used only if available. Keep this page open; a sandboxed reload may lose the quilt.
